Jack is a graduate of The Ohio State University, earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Industrial and Systems Engineering. In 2003 he earned his doctorate from OSU with his research on expert and novice decision making. Dr. Elson has taught business and engineering at The Ohio State University, University of South Carolina, National University, Trident University, and others. He currently has an appointment as Adjunct Professor at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Trident University International where he teaches leadership, strategy, operations and logistics. His business and educational interests are focused on leadership and systems thinking, decision making, human cognition and performance.

Jack (John L.) Elson has a broad career in both industry and academia spanning over 35 years. His industrial experience includes positions in business, operations, and management at divisions of Fortune 500 companies that include the manufacturing of household hardware, fasteners, and aerospace systems. He also has over 10 years of experience in the family Ford dealership as General Manager in charge of all departments: sales and F&I, parts and service, customer satisfaction, and fleet. Jack also operated his own consulting company and held positions in Ohio state government. The many projects he has successfully led cover a variety of business areas including coaching, business and strategic planning, decision making, marketing and advertising, training and learning systems, productivity and quality improvement, pricing and cost systems, information system implementation, and project management. In 2013, he incorporated J. Elson Company and started JELSON INSTITUTE providing coaching, peer advisory boards, consulting, training, and performance programs to small and mid-sized businesses and their owners/entrepreneurs. He is owner and CEO of TAB Chicago-SW, The Alternative Board, in SW Chicago.
